| MAS DE
CAZELLES and its surroundings
Our distinctive 200 year old group of farm buildings in typical Aveyron style is set in 30 acres of meadows and oak woodland in the Seye valley, with splendid views of hills and valleys. It provides a protected habitat for a wide variety of birds and butterflies in very peaceful surroundings. The beautifully restored buildings - home for our barn owls - enjoy the full sun whilst providing ample shade from mulberry, walnut, acacia and other trees. An 11 by 5 metre swimming pool (non chlorine) with Roman steps offers relaxation in an excellent setting. Mas de Cazelles provides peace and tranquility in a safe and relaxing environment. The small and unspoilt village of Verfeil - a Village Fleuri - is within easy walking distance (1km) and has a good boulangerie/general stores, garage and post office. Tennis; boulodrome. Visiting boucherie/charcuterie/poissonerie. The former Cistercian Abbaye de Beaulieu is just 2 km away and mounts musical events and contemporary art exhibitions in a splendid setting. Mas de Cazelles is close to many historic centres. Within about 30 minutes driving time are several charming, picturesque mediaeval/bastide villages and towns, most having regular market days. St Antonin-Noble-Val (15 minutes) sits in the spectacular Gorges de l’Aveyron, and its busy Sunday market is a must. Najac and Cordes are two imposing mediaeval hill towns brimming with history, fine buildings, restaurants and speciality shopping. The Thursday market at Villefranche is a fascinating experience. Further afield, historic Albi is an interesting town to explore with its fine pink cathedral and Toulouse Lautrec museum is less than an hour away, as is the ancient village of Conques on the Composella route and also Montauban, home of Ingres. Cahors - of wine and bridge fame - is a fascinating town to explore, whilst the pick of South West France’s chic has to be Toulouse, just over an hour away by car, or a short train journey from nearby Lexos (5km). The caves and cave paintings at Pechemerle (near the pretty village of St Cirq Lapopie) are stunning. Why not cycle and get even more immersed in rural France? Adult bikes can be rented from us at nominal daily rates. Nearby, inland lake and gorges offer swimming, canoeing, fishing and watersports. For gastronomic experiences and good value for money wine the region is well known. The property, which contains a small working vineyard, is in an area which has many interesting walks through woods and meadows, hill and valley. |
